The historic city of Carcassonne is 25 minutes away with its fantastic architecture including the world famous château, open air amphitheatre, cobbled streets and visitor attractions (see http://www.tourism-carcassonne.co.uk/ for more information), lively bars, restaurants and shops.
The historic town of Fanjeaux, which is famous for its persecution of the Cathars in the thirteenth century, is 10 minutes away. Perched up high on the hillside with its narrow streets the village has a stunning view of the Monatgne Noir, and the Pyrennees Mountains.
The Canal du Midi is a world heritage site dating back to the 1600’s. It is a great place to walk or cycle along or even to take a leisurely afternoon cruise for a couple of hours
Within reach of our Gîte are the world famous, historic Cathar castles some of which are restored and some of which are ruins and almost all are open to the public. The entire area is a panacea for visitors who enjoy the outdoors. The Pyrenees are a walkers’ heaven but closer to home there are easy signposted walks through the vineyards and along the Canal du Midi. For cyclists there are many little lanes with stunning views but above all with very little traffic and plenty of places to stop and admire the views whilst having a picnic. We have two bicycles available for our gite guests at no charge. The area has hosted stages of the Tour de France in the last two years. Wiinter visitors will be able to access the near by ski stations at Monts D'Olmes (45 minutes) or Ax les Thermes (1 hour 15 minutes)
The easiest way to get to Paradis des Papillon is by air. The area is served by a number of airports. The lowest cost option is to fly Ryanair from Stanstead, East Midlands, Liverpool or Glasgow to Carcassonne.

Perpignan – 1.5 hours
Rodez – 2.5 hours
By car Paradis des Papillon is located just 20 minutes from the A61 motorway and but for this the entire route from Calais to Paradis des Papillon is either motorway or dual carriageway. Journey times vary but driving within the legal limits the journey from Calais to Ferran can be done in 9 hours. Alternatively there are regular TGV train services from Paris to Carcassonne which is just 25 minutes away.
