Paradis des Papillon (Butterfly Paradise) is a newly created Gîte for 2016 forming part of an historic wine domaine. The property has been sympathetically restored by its English owners, who live next door, retaining many of the original features whilst equipping it for discerning holidaymakers. Paradis des Papillon is situated in the centre of the tiny hamlet of Ferran, in the Razes region, an area known for its production of wines, spectacular views of the adjacent countryside and the Pyrenees Mountains. The village exudes an air of tranquillity and calm and of time standing still.
The Gîte is available either as a 1 bedroom/1 bathroom option or as a 2 bedroom/2 bathroom option. It has a large living/dining room with wood burning stove for winter guests French and UK free-to-air TV, free Wi-Fi, a fully equipped kitchen with fridge, dishwasher, washer/dryer, and microwave and a luxury bathroom. Outside there is a terrace, large secluded private garden with shaded areas for sitting and relaxing, views of the Pyrenees and private, off-road parking.
Our Climate and Landscape
The climate here in the South of France is warm which means eating al fresco is the norm here. Typically summer temperatures are in the high 30’s and spring and autumn temperatures are often 25 – 30 degrees. It is not unknown to have coffee outside on Christmas Day in the sunshine. Languedoc Roussillon is referred to as the 'Real South of France' due to its unspoilt countryside of undulating vines, rocky outcrops and cypress trees often with a stunning backdrop of the snow-capped Pyrenees mountains. The Languedoc still feels very traditionally French, with wine-making villages and a slower, Mediterranean pace of life and good food and wine that is reasonably priced. Here, you will find unspoilt landscapes of undulating vines punctuated by rocky outcrops and rocket pines, often with a stunning backdrop of snow-capped mountains of the Pyrenees. .
Like most rural French villages there are no amenities within the village but there is a regular bread delivery and the nearby village of Belveze du Razes, 2 miles away, provides all facilities – including, bank, pharmacy, boulangerie, butcher, bar, pizza restaurant, supermarket, doctor, dentist, beauty therapist and hairdresser and open air public swimming pool which is open throughout July and August. Just 8 miles away is the larger town of Limoux (the home of blanquette –the original champagne) which has a large range of shops restaurants and other facilities.
